Jim Cownie

Biography
Jim Cownie is an ACM Distinguished Engineer and Intel Principal Engineer in the Software and Solutions group. He has worked on parallel computing since joining Inmos in 1979 to work on the Transputer. He is one of the co-founders of Meiko which developed parallel machines based on Transputers and then SPARC processors with their own cache-coherent RDMA network interface (in the early 1990s). He is a contributor to the MPI standard where he chaired the MPI-1 "Profiling" sub-committee. After Meiko, he worked on the TotalView debugger for ten years and has been at Intel for over 11 years, working on a variety of things including the OpenMP runtime. Given the choice, he would rather be skiing!
