Kim B. Olsen

Biography
Dr. Kim Olsen is Rollin and Caroline Eckis Chair in Seismology at San Diego State University. He was the original developer of the scalable AWP-ODC 4th-order staggered-grid finite-difference code for simulation of 3D elastic wave propagation, adapted the code to the parallel supercomputers using Message Passing Interface (MPI), and applied the code to simulate large-scale 3D wave propagation. He also implemented dynamic crack boundary conditions and friction laws in the code and applied the method to model large scenario and historic earthquakes. Dr. Olsen has also helped develop adjoint methods applied to probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis (PSHA).
