Dr. Shankar has served as a Medical Officer at NCI since 2003 in the Cancer Imaging Program, which is in the Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD). She has served as a Special Advisor to the Associate Director for the first several years as well as the Acting Chief for the Molecular Imaging Branch. In 2008, she was tasked with building the Clinical Trials Branch. Dr. Shankar is the lead for clinical imaging issues in research and practice for extramural NCI, serving the Division of Cancer Prevention as well as Cancer Control and Population Sciences in addition to DCTD. In addition, she serves on the trans NCI Women’s Health Activities Committee, which recently received a Merit Award for its activities.
