Richard Gerber
Biography
Richard Gerber is the User Services Group (USG) lead at the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He is also the Senior Science Advisor to the NERSC Director. USG is the primary point of contact between NERSC and its 5,000 scientific users from across the U.S. and the world. USG is responsible for problem management and consulting; helping with user code optimization and debugging; strategic project support; web documentation, training; and third-party software support. Richard has a Ph.D. in physics (computational astrophysics) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he used Cray vector supercomputers at NCSA. After obtaining his degree, Richard held a National Research Council postdoctoral fellowship at NASA Ames Research Center where he performed parallel programming on the Connection Machine. Richard has been at NERSC since 1996.
