Biography
Scott Callaghan is a software developer at the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) at the University of Southern California. He is the project lead on CyberShake, a large-scale application which performs physics-based probabilistic seismic analysis for California. His research focuses on utilizing high performance and high throughput scientific workflows to scale up and improve the performance of earth science applications.
Mr. Callaghan has been involved in HPC education in multiple capacities. Since 2005, he has mentored SCEC undergraduate summer interns, demonstrating how HPC is used to simulate earthquakes, and more recently has supervised and instructed interns as they use HPC resources to investigate earthquake forecasting. Since 2011 he has been a presenter, mentor, and planning committee member of the International HPC Summer School. He has also participated in outreach activities to educate the general public about HPC. He is currently an at-large board member of the ACM SIGHPC Education Chapter.
