Walid is currently a research scientist at NIST in the Software & Systems Division of the Information Technology Laboratory. He leads a small team that takes advantage of “HPC in the Small” (workstations with multiple GPUs and small clusters) to accelerate applications ranging from Image Stitching for Microscopy to Poisson-Boltzmann Solvers Using Random Walks. He obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1988 and joined NIST in 2011.
